In the present manufacturing industry, the usage of NC machine is rapidly increasing. The NC machine replaces conventional machine tools in many cases.
This paper proposes a strategy to replace conventional machine tools with a NC machine by a minimal correction. A hardware constructed by the proposed strategy consists of a servo mechanism, a encoder and a operation panel. The servo mechanism is carefully designed in consideration of a function of the applied system. In order to synchronize a tool feedrate with a spindle rotation, the encoder is attached to the spindle axis.
The system program corresponding to the control unit of the NC machine performs an interpolation, a tool radius compensation etc. The interpolation is carried out by using the software DDA(Digital Differential Analyzer) method.
Through this work, the developed system shows the possibility of retrofitting a conventional machine into NC machine.
