In this study, the development of a rotational energy harvester whose natural frequency is able to manually adjust the resonance frequency of structures is discussed. The proposed energy harvesters are based upon a spiral spring also called a coiled spring. The device is the combination of the rotational energy harvester and the suspended weight. Thus, it can harvest the electrical power by the electric generator from the translational base excitation associated with low frequency and large amplitude of vibrational energy induced from the civil engineering structures and the ocean. Its resonance frequency can be changeable by manipulating the size of a reel (i.e., geometrical tunability). Two newly invented architectures are proposed and fabricated in order to validate the proposed energy harvester after the study for rotational energy harvester. The proposed energy harvester can be modelled as a single degree-of-freedom system. To this end, the characteristics of the proposed device are investigated through analytical estimation and experimental test. In the analytical estimation, the electromechanical model is established from impedance method of mechanical to electrical system. To evaluate the performance of the proposed system, the prototypes are set on a vertical shaking table, the in-service bridge, and the water tank and then a series of experimental tests are performed.
