Effectiveness factors have been obtained numerically for the Rideal kinetics in a spherical macroreticular resin catalyst by using a two-phase model, in which the resin particle can be viewed as consisting of the gelular microspheres and the macropores formed by the space between them. The active functional groups are uniformly distributed over the microspheres and macropore walls.
The effectiveness factors depend upon six parameters such as the macro- and micro Thiele moduli, the ratios of the diffusional fluxes in each phase, the adsorption equilibrium constant and the equilibrium distribution coefficient, and the effect of those parameters were explained with their physical meanings.
It was proved that the multiplicity of the effectiveness factors does not exist in the present Rideal kinetics.
