This paper empirically shows that the cost of bank debt is systematically higher for firms that operate in competitive product markets. By dividing the sample into subsamples, I show that major economic shock makes this finding weaker.
Moreover, this paper reveals that Korean business groups, also known as Chaebols, pays lower cost of debt than others. By the use of internal capital markets Korean business groups pay lower cost of debt in more competitive market. Overall, these findings suggest that banks price financial contracts by taking into account the risk that arises from product market competition.
이 논문은 더 경쟁적인 상품시장에서 운영 중인 회사가 더 높은 부채비용을 부담하고 있다는 것을 실증적으로 보여준다. 그리고 이를 소그룹으로 나누어서 실증분석을 함으로써 경제적 충격이 이러한 현상을 약화 시킴을 보여준다.
