The time-dependent temperature distribution within the cross section of bridges is analyzed using the three-dimensional finite element method and numerical time integration in this study. We use the three-dimensional isoparametric element with eight nodes to model the shape of bridges and the two-dimensional isoparametric element with four nodes to apply boundary conditions. The temperature distribution is nonlinear and depends upon the thermal conductivity, density, specific heat, hydration heat(concrete) of the material and the air temperature, heat transfer coefficients, solar radiation. Especially, the early-age behavior is analyzed because of the hydration heat. And we can analyze more exactly due to temperature-dependent thermal conductivity. Nonlinear temperature distribution over the cross section of a simply supported bridge produces longitudinal self-equilibrium thermal stresses. In a continuous bridge, additional continuity stresses develop. In this study, we use time-dependent nonlinear elastic modulus in concrete bridges. Parametric studies are conducted in order to find the conservative conditions to analyze design codes of Korea and England. And we can propose new design code by comparing results of analysis with design codes in concrete, composite, steel bridges.
