This thesis presents new space-time (ST) block coding schemes for estimating a carrier frequency offset. Assuming that the system has multiple transmit antennas and one receive antenna, two kinds of ST block coding methods are proposed. One is for flat fading channels and the other is for frequency selective fading channels. By using the proposed ST block coding, the carrier frequency offset can be easily estimated from the differentially decoded samples without any channel information.
The proposed methods are applied to the 3 GPP system, and the simulation results show that the frequency offset estimation performance of the proposed methods is comparable to that of conventional methods. The computational load using the proposed ST block coding schemes, however, can be reduced.
