This thesis proposes a spatial authoring technique using 3D visualization of correlation between artwork metadata, to enhance arts professionals' curatorial capabilities with 3D virtual exhibitions. For this, we designed a metadata schema which comprises the 3D spatial and semantic information, and factual and re-interpretive information of artworks. Based on this database architecture, the metadata is mapped to the corresponding 3D visual properties and locations, which then enables the 3D visualization of thematic correlation among the artworks. Furthermore, the thesis documents the usefulness and usability of this spatial authoring technique with 12 experts in the art world. The evaluation results prove that the proposed technique is particularly helpful when curators create virtual exhibitions in consideration of audience's viewing paths; and that it supports the vocational capabilities and design requirements of curators.

이 논문은 예술 전시 창작자의 3D 가상 전시 기획 역량 증강을 목표로, 작품의 메타 데이터 간 상관 관계 시각화를 활용한 공간 저작 기술을 제안한다. 기존 디지털 가상 전시 지원 시스템에서는 작품 메타데이터 등록 및 관리 기능과, 3D 환경 속에서의 작품 배치 기능이 양분화되어, 메타데이터와 3D 공간 저작 기능을 유동적으로 통합, 활용할 수 있는 방식에 대한 연구가 미비하다. 제안 기술은 가상 전시 공간에 배치된 작품들의 공간 정보를 작품 메타데이터와 대응하는 시각 요소에 매핑함으로써 연동하고, 배치 중인 작품들 간 주제적 상관 관계를 3D 노드 형식으로 실시간 시각화함으로써, (1) 가상 전시 저작 단계에서 작품의 주제적 연관성에 대한 정보를 제공한다는 점, (2) 그러한 정보를 바탕으로 주어진 3D 공간 내에서 주제에 따른 작품 간 연관성을 고려한 저작을 가능케한다는 점에서 기존 연구와 차별화된다. 나아가, 12인의 미술계 전문가들과 함께 제안 기술의 유용성 및 사용성을 여타 작품 메타데이터 기반 3D 공간 저작 도구 1종과 비교 분석, 검증하였다. 평가 결과는 제안된 시스템이 특히 가상 방문객의 동선을 고려한 전시 기획에 용이하게 쓰일 수 있으며, 또 전시 창작자의 전문 역량 및 요구사항을 지원함을 증명한다. 제안 기술은 실제 공간에서는 보이지 않는 각종 메타데이터와 작품 정보 간 연관성을 3D 저작 단계에서 가시화하고, 그로써 가상 전시 저작 및 기획 시스템만의 특수성과 장점을 강화하는 데에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.
