This paper examines determinants of cross-sectional Korean stock return through book value constituents:contributed capital, retained earnings and accumulated other comprehensive income.
Among book value constituents, retained earnings-to-market results in pronounced positive correlation.
Book-to-market factor well represents stock return due to inclusion of return information in book value.
This paper further explains that average of past earnings, which offsets short-term accounting effects and issues, tends to be influential on stock return.
