Over the past decades, robotics have made efforts to mathematically describe a robotic system and design controller for the given nominal model. These model-based controllers are sensitive to modeling error thus generally perform pre-experiments for system identification. Existing system identification, especially for mass-inertial parameter estimation, has a fundamental limitation in converting formulation into real-time fashion because of insufficient persistent excitation trajectories. In this thesis, we figure out the fundamental limitation of conventional system identification is due to the Euclidean metric in vector space, then formulate the Riemannian manifold that preserves geometric properties mass-inertial parameter should possess. The proposed mass-inertial parameter estimation framework relies on geodesic distance on the Riemannian metric to estimate mass-inertial parameters in real-time. Further, we demonstrate the performance of the estimation framework compared with conventional works in the example of a robotic arm in a computer simulation.
