It is predicted that political and social conflicts will intensify due to increased non-face-to-face activities caused by COVID-19 and algorithm-based personalized news. The purpose of this study is to confirm whether a decrease in face-to-face meetings and an increase in customized news consumption after the outbreak of COVID-19 affect increasing the bias of individuals' political views, and to confirm the possibility of deepening political and social conflicts. To this end, we tried to confirm the change in online news usage behavior and the experience of self-awareness and conflict with the experience of using customized news in forming individual political views after COVID-19 through a survey. As a result of the survey, it was found that face-to-face exchanges decreased after the outbreak of COVID-19, and that the bias in views and perceptions was strengthened unknowingly due to the provision of customized news. In addition, individuals thought they were being provided with information objectively and balanced through online news, and were concerned that customized news would intensify political conflicts. In the future, as face-to-face meetings decrease, non-face-to-face activities increase, and the use of customized news that feels easy to use increases, individual political bias is expected to intensify political and social conflicts. I would like to suggest that various policy solutions need to be sought to alleviate political and social conflicts in the future.
코로나로 인한 비대면 활동이 증가하고 알고리즘 기반의 개인 맞춤형 뉴스로 인해 정치·사회 갈등이 심화될 것으로 예측된다. 본 연구의 목적은 코로나 발발 이후 대면 만남의 감소와 맞춤형 뉴스 소비의 증가가 개인의 정치적 견해의 편향성을 증가시키는 데 영향을 미치는지 확인하고, 정치적 견해의 편향성 증가가 정치·사회 갈등 심화로 이어질 가능성을 확인하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 코로나 이후 개인의 정치적 견해를 형성하는 데 있어 온라인 뉴스 이용 행태의 변화와 맞춤형 뉴스 이용의 경험에 대한 자기인식과 갈등 경험을 설문조사를 통해 확인하고자 했다. 설문 결과, 코로나 발발 이후 코로나 이전보다 대면 교류가 감소하였고 맞춤형 뉴스 제공으로 인해 자신도 모르게 견해와 인식의 편향성이 강화되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 개인은 온라인 뉴스를 통해 객관적이고 균형 있게 정보를 제공받고 있다고 생각함과 동시에 맞춤형 뉴스로 인해 정치적 갈등이 심화될 것을 우려하고 있었다. 앞으로 코로나로 인해 대면 만남이 감소하고 비대면 활동이 증가하며, 사용하기 편하다고 느끼는 맞춤형 뉴스의 이용이 증가함에 따라 개인의 정치적 편향성이 증가하고, 더 나아가 정치·사회 갈등이 심화될 것으로 보인다. 향후 정치·사회 갈등을 완화하기 위한 다양한 정책적 해법이 모색될 필요가 있음을 제시하고자 한다.
