Drawing on incomplete knowledge diversity and knowledge similarity, we examine the two features of knowledge that affect firms’ alliance decisions. We first look into how incomplete knowledge diversity affects firms’ alliance decisions. Our theoretical premise is that the moderate differences in the incomplete knowledge diversity between firms would provide complementary knowledge to its partner, leading to exploration alliance decisions. This effect is strengthened if firms show similarity in their knowledge. Using alliance data and input-output data during the 2005-2019 period, test our hypotheses of the relationship between two features of knowledge and corporate alliance decisions.
탐험적 제휴는 기업의 중요한 의사결정중 하나이다. 본 연구는 공급자-구매자의 맥락을 이용하여 불완전한 지식의 다양성과 지식의 유사도가 기업의 전략적 제휴 가능성에 미치는 영향을 조사한다. 특히, 불완전한 지식의 다양성이 높은 기업의 경우 해당 지식을 활용하기 위해 지식의 다양성 차이가 적절한 파트너와 전략적 제휴를 체결할 가능성이 높다고 주장한다. 분석과정에서의 내생성 문제를 해결하기 위해 도구 변수를 사용하였다. 본 연구는 2005년부터 2019년까지의 산업 데이터를 이용하여 제휴에 참가하는 두 기업의 적절한 불완전한 지식의 다양성의 차이가 탐험적 제휴에 영향을 준다는 것을 보여준다. 또한 그 영향은 두 기업 사이의 지식 유사도가 커짐에 따라 더욱 강화된다는 사실도 나타났다.
