Many of the current hypermedia systems support client/server environments by utilizing client/server DBMSs as their storage systems. In this thesis, we design and implement a hypermedia system using a client/server relational DBMS. Especially, we define relational database scheme for a hypermedia structure based on the Dexter Hypertext Reference Model and propose an efficient concurrency control mechanism for long transactions in our hypermedia system. Unlike other systems, our system maintains a private database in the client site as well as a public database in the server site for fast data access in the client site as private data storage.
