This paper analyzed the correlation between tracking error and liquidity premium according to liquidity of exchange-traded funds, and analyzed the performance of market-making strategies according to ETF`s liquidity. The correlation between ETF liquidity and ETF tracking error was analyzed using the analysis method of Bae and Kim (2020) and the liquidity index of Amihud (2002), and the correlation was confirmed to be statistically significant according to the results. In addition, it was confirmed using LCAPM, the methodology of Acharya and Pederson (2005), that the liquidity premium of ETF has a higher return as the liquidity and liquidity are low. And using the relationship between the intraday price and intraday NAV of the ETF according to liquidity, it was confirmed that ETFs with low liquidity performed better by using the market making strategy, a high-frequency trading strategy introduced by Ho and Stoll(1981).
본 논문은 상장지수펀드의 유동성에 따른 추적오차와 유동성 프리미엄의 상관관계를 분석하였고 유동성에 따른 마켓메이킹 전략의 성과를 분석하였다. Bae, Kim(2020)의 분석방법과 Amihud (2002)의 유동성 지표를 이용하여 ETF의 유동성과 ETF의 추적오차의 상관관계를 분석하였고, 그 결과에 따라 상관관계가 통계적으로 유의하다고 확인하였다. 또한 ETF의 유동성과 유동성이 낮을수록 수익률이 높은 유동성 프리미엄이 존재하는 것을 Acharya, Pederson(2005)의 방법론인 LCAPM을 이용하여 확인하였다. 그리고 유동성에 따른 일중 ETF의 가격과 NAV의 관계를 이용하여 Ho, Stoll (1981)에서 소개된 고빈도 거래전략인 시장조성(Market Making) 전략을 이용하여 유동성이 낮은 ETF의 성과가 더 좋은 것을 확인하였다.
