The number of research collaborations has more than tripled over the past 15 years, and this trend is expected to continue as researchers come together to solve global problems. Analyzing the movements of high-skilled labors, such as researchers, is an important topic in political science, research policy.
In this thesis, we consider the mobility and collaboration of researchers as an analysis of the complex network on institutional level. We conduct a quantitative study of the hierarchy of educational institutions and their privileges by analyzing the collaboration network of higher education institutions across borders and the professor appointment network together. In particular, we investigated the impact of privileges of prestigious institutions, focusing on economics and physics, on professor appointment networks or collaborative networks through regression and exponential random graph models. Based on these results, we analyzed the differences in network characteristics by department and looked at the characteristics of nodes that cause the network to be created.
본 학위 논문은 연구자들의 이동과 협업을 기관 단위의 네트워크 분석으로 분석하였다. 지난 15년간 연구 협업의 수는 3배 이상으로 증가했다. 이러한 추세는 ICT 기술의 발전과 함께 공동연구에서 물리적 거리의 제한이 사라짐으로써 연구자들 간의 공동연구가 더욱 증진될 것으로 보인다. 우리는 국경을 뛰어넘은 고등교육 기관의 협업 네트워크와 교수 임용네트워크를 함께 분석함으로써 교육 기관의 위계와 그에 따른 특권에 관한 정량적인 연구를 진행하고자 한다. 특히, 우리는 회귀분석과 지수 랜덤 그래프 모델을 통해 경제학과와 물리학과를 중심으로 명문기관의 특권이 교수 임용 네트워크나 협업 네트워크에 미치는 영향을 분석한다. 이 결과를 바탕으로, 학과별 네트워크 특성의 차이점을 분석하고 네트워크가 생성되게 하는 노드의 특성을 알아보았다.
