In this paper, I test the effects of the returns of first 30 minutes and second last 30 minutes toward the return of last 20 minutes based on high-frequency trading data of 809 stocks in KOSPI from 2011 to 2020. Unlike from studies of other countries, the first 30 minutes' momentum effect does not exist, instead I find reversal effect in the second last 30 minutes. Intraday reversal effect does not have correlation with realized volatility. However, the reversal effect is stronger on less trading volume, larger illiquidity, and small size stocks. Furthermore, this result can be interpreted that reversal effect is pay-off from providing liquidity, and the effect appears stronger for stocks with greater information imbalance.
