Social enterprise increases social welfare by tackling social problem and creating social value. The purpose of current paper is to examine how social planner induces for-profit firms to be altruistic firms which increases social welfare. In the model, social enterprise maximizes its profit and consumer surplus while social planner maximizes social welfare by providing an incentives for a firm to be a social enterprise. An incentive is based on the difference of prices between two firms. This model is a price competition, and there are three main results through the analysis: (i) there exists such an incentive; (ii) the amount of incentives increases as the market size increases; (iii) the subsidy in accordance with the fixed monopoly price of incumbent firm is efficient, compared to the equilibrium price of incumbent.
사회적 기업은 구체적인 사회문제 해결을 통해 새로운 가치를 창출하고 궁극적으로 사회후생을 증대시킬 것으로 기대된다. 본 논문에서는 사회후생 극대화를 추구하는 정책결정자가 사회적 기업의 활동을 장려하는 프로그램을 운영함으로서 사회후생이 증가할 수 있음에 관한 이론적 근거를 제시하고자 한다. 시장에서 사회적 기업은 기업의 이윤과 소비자 잉여를 극대화하고, 정책결정자는 영리기업이 사회적 기업으로 행동하게끔 유인책을 제시하여 사회후생을 극대화 시키고자 한다. 사회적 기업의 전환으로 발생되는 손실만큼을 보조금 형태로 지급하여 유인을 하게 되는데, 이 보조금은 두 기업간의 가격차이에 비례해서 지급된다. 기업들은 가격 결정을 통하여 경쟁하고, 본 모형의 균형분석을 통해 정책결정자의 유인책에 관한 3가지 결론을 도출하였다. 첫째, 사회적 기업의 활동을 장려하는 보조금이 존재한다. 둘째, 보조금의 크기는 기존 시장 크기에 비례한다. 셋째, 기존 독점시장 가격을 기준으로 보조금을 제시할 때, 균형가격 기준으로 제시할 때 보다 더 효율적이다.
