The Global Value Chain (GVC) has been used as a key management strategy for enhancing efficiency and increasing productivity through cost savings for companies. But how will the GVC structure change in the age of super-uncertainty after COVID-19? The existing traditional trade theory, which presupposes a stable external environment, will still be valid, and if not, what direction the GVC structure will unfold in the future and what factors will act as key variables will be reviewed. In particular, it is going to study future GVC scenarios focusing on smartphone industries. Research methodology utilizes methods of literature research, industry-academic expert Delphi survey, FCI, scenario and SWOT analysis.
Study shows that the GVC structure is likely to be driven in a way that strengthens resilience. Specific scenarios have been identified as deepening M&A, technology purchase and manpower attraction to enhance the completeness of the value chain, strengthening vertical integration and unification, while at the same time, externalization strategies in the form of aggressive local investment centered on major demand countries are likely to be pursued. In addition, variables on the GVC structure will be diversified compared to the past, and technology levels will still act as a critical variable, but at the same time, the importance of crisis management ability to cope with various external changes, such as trade conflicts between countries and changes in trade policies, will be strengthened compared to before.
글로벌 밸류체인(GVC)은 기업의 비용절감을 통한 효율성 강화를 위한 핵심 경영 전략으로 활용되어 왔다. 그러나 COVID-19 이후 超불확실성 시대에 GVC 구조와 기업의 참여 형태가 여전히 기존과 동일한 방향으로 진행될 것인가? 스마트폰 산업의 예를 들어 안정적 외부환경을 전제한 기존의 전통적 무역이론의 유효성 여부와 향후 GVC 구조를 견인할 핵심 변인을 검토하였으며, 연구방법론은 문헌조사 델파이 조사, FCI, 시나리오, SWOT 분석의 방법을 활용하였다.
연구 결과 COVID-19 이후 GVC 구조는 복원력을 강화하는 방향으로 변화할 가능성이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 구체적인 GVC의 미래 시나리오로는 밸류체인 완결성 제고를 위한 M&A, 기술매입, 인력유치 심화로 수직계열화와 통합화가 강화될 것으로 전망되었다. 또한, 그와 동시에 미래의 주요 수요국과 우방국 중심으로 공격적인 현지투자 형태의 외부화 전략이 추진될 가능성이 높은 것으로 도출되었다. GVC 구조에 미치는 변수는 과거 대비 다양화되고, 기술수준은 여전히 중요한 핵심 변수로 작용할 것이나 동시에 국가 간 통상갈등과 각국 통상정책 변화 등 다양한 외부 변화에 대처하는 기업과 국가의 위기 관리능력의 중요성이 이전에 비해 강화된다.
