With the development of mobile sensing technology, Just-in-Time (JIT) intervention has been used as an effective strategy to induce changes in user behavior in the healthcare field. One of the concerns of JIT intervention is the occurrence of habituation, which means that intervention becomes less effective as the number of received intervention increases. Habituation is a phenomenon in which the response decreases due to less attention to repetitive stimuli. As one method to solve the problem, this study proposes to include randomized computer suggested nicknames in the intervention messages. To evaluate the effect of computer suggested random nicknames, a two-week long field study was conducted with a mobile intervention app that promotes physical activities (n=29). The analysis of the collected physical activity and questionnaire data revealed that randomized computer suggested nicknames relieved the boredom of intervention and increased the internal motivation for an active break. However, this approach did not have a significant effect on improving the adherence rate. A post-interview data was analyzed to find the major cause of boredom and the benefits of computer suggested random nicknames, which include how users interpret the meaning of the nickname and how this interpretation significantly improved the intrinsic motivation of active break.
