Consistency in personality of conversational agents is crucial to formation of user expectations towards how to interact with such agents and the quality of user experience. For an agent personality to be manifested consistently, those who design such personality should be able to deliver it concretely enough to those who write actual dialogs to enable a shared understanding of the intended personality. In light of this issue, this thesis explores the ways to design and express conversational agents’ personalities and suggests a design guide for consistent manifestation of such personalities. Key considerations in the process of designing and manifesting agent personality were identified from design workshops. Based on these, a design guide for manifesting agent personality was designed. Through a Wizard-of-Oz-based user study, this guide was evaluated and refined based on both designer- and user-perspective design implications drawn from the study results.
대화형 에이전트 성격의 일관성 유지는 에이전트와의 인터랙션 방식과 관계 발전에 대한 사용자 기대치를 형성하고 경험의 질을 결정짓는 핵심 역할을 한다. 에이전트의 성격이 일관적으로 표출되기 위해서는 설계자가 성격을 잘 체계화하고 명시하여 대화 작성자들에게 전달함으로써 본래 의도된 성격이 올바르게 표현될 수 있어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 디자이너가 대화형 에이전트 성격을 설계하고 표출하는 과정에서 일관성을 유지하는 방법을 디자인 가이드의 형태로 개발하였다. 디자이너 워크샵을 통해 에이전트 성격 설계 과정에서 고려되어야 할 설계 요소과 표출 요소를 탐색하였고, 이를 바탕으로 설계자가 에이전트 성격을 일관성 표출되도록 디자인하는 방법을 가이드의 형태로 도출하였다. 이후 위저드 오브 오즈(Wizard-of-Oz) 형태로 대화 인터랙션 경험을 프로토타이핑하고 사용자 조사를 진행하여 가이드의 효용성을 확인하고, 대화 작성자 및 사용자 관점에서 도출한 시사점을 바탕으로 가이드를 보완하였다.
