The Black-Scholes model is not appropriate as an accurate option pricing model due to various errors come from assumptions about parameters. As a result, various studies have presented improved option pricing models in parametric or nonparametric ways, but these models were too complex to be actually applied and so Black-Scholes model is still used as a meaningful option pricing model. In this study, I used support vector regression and XGBoost, nonparametric algorithms based on machine learning, to verify option pricing performance versus Black-Scholes model as a benchmark. As a result, XGBoost was significantly superior for call option, and the put option was disputable. On the moneyness basis, the machine learning-based model clearly showed outstanding performance for out-of-money options, where many transactions take place in the market.
