News serves as a source of information for investors and influences the decision to buy or sell stocks. Investors make decisions by reading some positive or negative news in real time. In this study, I analyze how the amount of online news for individual companies affects the return of stocks and differentiation of stock returns is confirmed according to the proportion of investors and the contents of the news. An empirical analysis shows that the return on a portfolio of stocks with no online news in the Korean market exceeds that of a portfolio of stocks with a lot of online news, but no statistical significance has been shown. In addition, the statistical significance of the media effect is identified only in portfolios with a low proportion of individual investors in the Korean market, and the results of this study are not reached in support of the results of prior research.
뉴스는 투자자들에게 정보를 전달하는 역할을 하며, 주식을 매수 혹은 매도 의사결정을 내리는데 영향을 미치는 요인이다. 투자자들은 실시간으로 긍정적 혹은 부정적인 뉴스를 보고 의사판단을 내리게 된다. 본 연구에서는 개별 기업에 대한 온라인 뉴스의 양이 주식 수익률에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 분석해 보았으며, 투자자 비중과 뉴스의 내용에 따른, 주식 수익률의 차별화를 확인하였다. 실증 분석 결과, 한국 시장에서 온라인 뉴스가 없는 종목으로 이루어진 포트폴리오의 수익률이 온라인 뉴스가 많은 종목으로 이루어진 포트폴리오의 수익률을 상회하지만, 통계적인 유의성이 나타나지 않았다. 또한, 개인투자자 비중이 낮은 포트폴리오에서만 보도 효과의 통계적인 유의성이 확인되면서, 국내 시장에서 투자자 비중에 따른 보도 효과 차이가 발생한다는 선행 연구들을 긍정하는 결과를 얻지 못하였다.
