What is beauty? Beauty is not easy to define by metaphysical attributes, but it must be a very important value that exists throughout our consciousness and life from the beginning of human history to the present, from birth to death of a human being. In the history of mankind, beauty has acted as strength, power, privilege and capital and competitiveness, and human aesthetic standards, values, and aesthetic experiences have constantly changed as social culture fluctuates. So what are the key drivers that change social culture and, by extension, change the perception of beauty? At the beginning of the destructive innovation of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, we cannot help but think of 'progress in technology'. Technology began with the emergence of humans. Humans created and used tools to survive in the harsh natural environment, and the history of mankind is divided into etc. according to the “TOOLS”, into according to the “COMMUNICATION & MEDIA METHOD”, or into according to the “PRODUCTION METHOD”. Such changes in the "tool, media, and production methods" have become very important criteria for distinguishing human history, all three of which are directly linked to technological progress. In other words, from a macro-history point of view, social culture has been changed by advances in technology, and it has also had a profound impact on human values, even aesthetic experience, aesthetic consciousness, etc. In this paper, we analyzed human technical history and history of beauty in a general way, looked at historical cases in which technological progress has changed the perception of beauty, and predicted through the scenario technique of Jim Dator, a global futurist, how technological progressives that will be highly influential in the future will change the perception of women's beauty. This gives humanity insight into the future beauty that is very important, and provides historical consideration of the relationship between technological progress and beauty.
아름다움이란 무엇인가? 아름다움은 형이상학적 속성으로 인하여 그 정의를 내리기 쉽지 않으나, 그것이 인류 역사의 초기부터 현재까지, 한 인간의 출생에서 죽음에 이르기까지 우리의 의식 및 삶의 전반에 존재하는 매우 중요한 가치임에는 틀림없다. 인류의 역사 속에서 아름다움은 힘, 권력, 특권이자 자본이며 경쟁력으로 작용해 왔으며, 사회문화의 변동에 따라 인간의 미적 기준이나 가치, 미적 경험들은 끊임없이 변화해 왔다. 그렇다면 사회문화를 변화시키고, 나아가 아름다움에 관한 인식을 변화시키는 핵심동인은 무엇인가? 4차 산업혁명이라는 파괴적 혁신의 초입에서 우리는 ‘기술의 진보’를 떠올리지 않을 수 없다. 기술은 인간의 출현과 함께 시작되었다. 인간은 험난한 자연환경 속에서 생존을 위해 도구를 만들어 사용하였고 인류의 역사는 그 ‘도구의 소재’에 따라 <구석기-신석기-청동기-철기시대> 등으로, ‘커뮤니케이션 및 미디어 방식’에 따라 <구전-문자-활자인쇄-전자매체-디지털시대>로, 혹은 ‘생산방식’에 따라 <원시수렵-농경-산업-정보-후기정보사회>로 구분된다. 이같이 ‘도구, 미디어, 생산방식’의 변화는 인류의 역사를 구분 짓는 매우 중요한 기준이 되었으며, 이 세 가지는 모두 “기술의 진보”와 직결된다. 즉, 거시사적 관점에서 사회문화는 기술의 진보에 의해 변화해 왔으며, 그것은 인간의 가치관, 나아가 미적 경험, 미의식 등에도 지대한 영향을 미쳐왔다. 본 논문에서는 인류의 기술사와 미의 역사를 통시적으로 분석하고, 기술 진보가 아름다움에 관한 인식을 변화시킨 역사적 사례들을 살펴본 후, 미래에 파급력이 높을 기술 진보들이 여성의 아름다움에 관한 인식을 어떻게 변화시킬 것인지 세계적 미래학자 짐 데이토(Jim Dator)의 시나리오 기법을 통해 예측해 보았다. 이는 인류에게 매우 중요한 ‘미래의 아름다움’에 관한 통찰과 더불어, ‘기술 진보와 아름다움’의 관계에 대한 역사적 고찰을 선사한다.
