For past decades, hydrogen energy has been highlighted due to its eco-friendly characteristics and wide transformability. Hydrogen energy is now playing a role on energy carrier, so transport and storage techniques on this area should be deeply studied. Especially, chemical storage method by using metal hydrides has been widely studied, which has advantages on high energy density and stability. Thermal management is necessary for hydrogen storage system using metal hydrides because temperature of the system affects the reaction rate of hydration which is exothermic reaction. For design of the thermal system, understanding the thermal performance of pecked bed of metal hydrides is necessary. To measure the effective thermal conductivity, this study designed the Subminiature Guarded Hot Plate. Based on the experimental results for residual and stagnant thermal conductivity, this study verified the theroretical model on effective thermal conductivity of packed bed on metal hydrides.
