The mobile surveillance system is emerging as a means to replace the existing fixed CCTV in that the wide range can be monitored without blind spots, and both monitoring and initial handling can be done. With these features, it is more highly available in facilities that are difficult for people to access and require around-the-clock surveillance, such as military facilities and underground joint zones. The current mobile surveillance system, however, has the drawback of heavy weight and slow driving speed as it directly mounts wheel-motor-based drives in surveillance cameras. In addition, motor vibrations are generated during high-speed driving, resulting in poor quality of surveillance images. When long-range rails are installed for a wide range of surveillance, wheel-motor drives require large cross-sectional rails, which results in high installation costs. This paper suggests a new concept of mobile monitoring system that enables high-speed driving based on wire driving and determines applicability in the actual environment. By replacing the existing system, which is based on a wheel-motor driving, the drive unit with a wire-driven driving mechanism can be installed in a fixed stage, thus reducing the weight of the camera platform that is actually moving and as a result, the driving speed can be increased. Installation costs can be reduced by replacing the existing 'ㄷ' shaped rail with a 1/6 surface area of the guide bar. One of the main issues in feasibility study is to figure out how much vibration of the camera platform, which causes damage to surveillance image data, is induced by wire's stretch in acceleration and deceleration. And in order to determine whether the vibration actually occurs or not, the experiment is conducted on a 9m length of rail, the 1/20 size of the actual mobile surveillance system. Also, simulation in Simulink is conducted to check if tuning of motion profile can reduce the vibration of camera platform.
