This paper proposes a recommender system to have been used in personalized recommendations to the store level. That is the SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) recommender system which can be applied to retail stores carrying identical brands by using collaborative filtering and hybrid filtering. Similarities between stores are calculated by using the purchase data of each store to decide its nearest neighbor store. Collaborative filtering is a method in which each store recommends SKU to the nearest neighbor stores amongst themselves while hybrid filtering is different from collaborative filtering by being conducted within each store cluster. Store clusters are divided by principal component analysis and clustering analysis using store profile data. Performance of the two filtering methodologies of the recommender system is measured by precision ratio using real sales data according to recommended SKU.
This study was conducted using real company sales data so that the retail company can apply the SKU recommender system to their stores. It carries significance in that the domain of recommender system usage was expanded from the individual level into retail stores carrying identical brands for the first time.
