In Korean stock market, companies with higher Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scores experience higher stock returns than those with lower CSR scores during the 2008 Global Financial Crisis. In addition, companies with higher CSR scores have better financial health and liquidity due to the ratio of total debt to total asset and the ratio of account receivables of total asset and the corporate value measured by Tobin Q was higher during the Crisis. However, these results does not persist in other periods than the Crisis, so the costs that firms spend on CSR can serve as an insurance to prevent stock returns and corporate values from falling when the overall level of trust in corporations and markets suffers a negative shock.
