Mobile data traffic increased rapidly due to the spread of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Therefore, the technology of efficiently transmitting data have become indispensable for base stations to serve a large amount of traffic in time. Multicasting is one of the representative scheme to transmit data efficiently when transmitting the same data for many users. Many papers have studied multicasting for simultaneous user requests. In this paper, we consider multicasting for asynchronous request for multiple users case. We propose a multicasting scheme to merge the multiple unicast transmission into multicast transmission by grouping the users who request the same file during “set-up time”. Through analyzing the mathematical model of our proposed scheme, we suggest the algorithm to find joint optimal pair of rate and set-up time to minimize average transmission time for group users. In conclusion, we confirmed that unicast merging could reduce the average transmission time of users in a group.
최근 모바일 데이터 사용량은 스마트 폰 및 태블릿과 같은 모바일 기기의 보급으로 인해 급격히 증가하였다. 그에 따라 효율적으로 정보를 전송하는 기술은 기지국이 많은 양의 정보를 제 시간 안에 처리하는데 없어서는 안되는 필수 요소가 되었다. 멀티 캐스팅은 다수의 사용자에게 동일한 데이터를 전송하는 상황에서 효율적으로 전송할 수 있는 대표적인 기술 중 하나이다. 사용자들의 데이터 요청이 동기화 되어있는 상황에서의 멀티캐스팅 관련 연구는 많이 되어있다. 본 논문에서는 보다 일반적인 상황인 다수의 사용자의 비동기적 요청에서의 멀티 캐스팅을 가정한다. 우리는 “셋-업 시간” 이라는 기간 동안 동일한 데이터를 요청한 다수의 사용자들을 병합하여 그들에게 할당된 유니캐스트 전송을 모아 멀티캐스팅하는 기법을 제안한다. 이 논문에서는 멀티캐스팅 기법을 수학적으로 분석하여 그룹내의 사용자들에게 파일이 전송되기까지 걸리는 평균 전송 시간을 최소화 하는 전송률과 셋-업 시간을 찾는 알고리즘을 제시한다. 또한 결론적으로 유니캐스트 병합을 통해 그룹 내에 사용자들의 평균 전송 시간을 감소시킬 수 있음을 확인했다.
