In a complex situation where the means of interaction commonly used in automobiles - blinkers, high beams, and horns - can not be effective, drivers have been communicating using supportive means such as gestures or vehicle speed control. However, in the case of an autonomous vehicle, it is not possible to use the supportive communication performed by the human driver, and therefore there is a possibility of traffic delay in the interaction between the autonomous vehicle and the human driving vehicle. In this study, we develop a means of communication for autonomous vehicles using human hand gestures for overall traffic congestion and safe and active driving of autonomous vehicles.
자동차에 흔히 쓰이고 있는 상호작용 수단인 깜빡이, 하이빔, 경적들의 수단이 효과를 발휘할 수 없는 복잡한 상황에서 운전자들은 제스처나 차량의 속도 조절 등 부수적인 수단을 이용해 의사소통 해왔다. 하지만 자율주행차의 경우, 인간 운전자가 행하는 부수적인 소통을 사용할 수 없고, 따라서 자율주행차-인간주행차 사이의 상호작용에서 교통 지체가 생길 수 밖에 없다. 전체적인 교통 정체 현상과, 자율주행차의 안전하고 능동적인 주행을 위해, 본 연구에서는 인간의 손 제스처를 활용한 자율주행차의 의사소통 수단을 개발한다.
