The frequency and intensity of extreme natural disasters such as flood and drought are increasing steadily due to global climate change. In Korea, the frequency and intensity of natural disasters driven by climate change are becoming stronger, which causes not only social and economic damages but also human casualties. In this study, we examine the effects of natural disasters on the regional economy and their effects on the industrial production by using the natural disaster data from 2000 ~ 2015. As a result, the effect on the regional economy differs depending on the type of disaster and the effect on the industrial production is also changed. The results of this study suggest that the type of natural disaster and the social and economic characteristics of the region should be considered when establishing the adaptation policy for climate change.
전세계적으로 기후변화로 인하여 폭염, 홍수, 가뭄 등과 같은 극한 기후 현상의 발생 빈도와 강도가 점차 증가하고 있다. 우리나라 역시 기후변화로 인한 자연재해의 발생 빈도와 강도가 강해지고 있으며 이로 인해 사회∙경제적 피해뿐 아니라 인명피해가 급증하고 있다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 전국 16개 시∙도를 대상으로 2000~2015년 자연재해 데이터를 활용하여 자연재해의 유형에 따라 지역경제에 미치는 영향이 달라지는 지와 산업별 생산에 미치는 영향이 상이한 지 여부를 살펴보았다. 분석결과, 재해의 유형에 따라 지역경제에 미치는 영향이 다르며 지역경제를 구성하는 산업별 생산에 미치는 영향도 달라지는 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 기후변화에 대한 적응 정책 마련 시 자연재해의 유형과 지역의 사회적, 경제적 특성을 고려해야 함을 시사한다.
