The B/M ratio is not a perfect measure to capture value premium because some value stocks earn like growth stocks and vice versa. This study suggests that a new value factor, which is size component ($bm^s$) extracted from the B/M ratio because the variation of B/M ratio is explained substantially by historical changes of market value. The B/M ratio loses its predictive power on value premium when changes of market value as independent variables exist in Fama and MacBeth regressions. Furthermore, $bm^s$ still has significant explanatory power on value premium under B/M and Size neutral condition. Finally, &HML^S$size component value factor constructed by $bm^s$ instead of B/M performs better with statistically significant higher R-squared than the original value factor HML.
