There are some concerns about leveraged and inverse exchange-traded funds(LIETFs) driving up the end-of-day volatility near the market’s close through strategic rebalancing. Although there are research compiling this issue, having been a subject of investigation, there is still no consensus of opinion regarding leveraged and inverse ETFs' ability to affect stock market volatility. In this thesis, it is examined statistically that end-of-day individual stock volatility is significantly correlated with the amount of LIETFs rebalancing. As a result, it is evident that leveraged ETF rebalancing increases end of day volatility (after adjusting the intraday volatility curve to normal measurements). Thus, this thesis supports the claim that leveraged and inverse ETFs may affect market stability.
