This study, which suggests a concept called “Artifact Mixtape” for curating the music in personal tangible artifacts, aims to explore the potential of everyday things as a new medium of music to support the current music experience of general listeners. Before implementing the concept, one-on-one interviews with general music listeners were conducted to investigate the weak points of the current music experience. After that, the Artifact Mixtape system was developed, which enables users to connect digital playlists to everyday objects using a mixed reality interface. The possible roles, values, and limits of Artifact Mixtapes were identified after one-week experiences of the system and post-interviews with general music listeners. Based on the results, the effects of Artifact Mixtapes’ attributes as personal tangible artifacts on music experience were examined to explore the potential of everyday things as a new music medium.
