This study analyzes the effects of SMEs(Small and Medium Enterprises)' R&D cooperation on the size, R&D investment and performance of firms. In addition, it investigates how self-motivation of SMEs influences on the size and performance of firms, R&D investment and performance of firms when participating in national R&D projects. The main hypotheses are: 1) the R&D cooperation has a mediating effect on the size and performance of SMEs, 2) the R&D cooperation has a mediating effect on the R&D investment and performance of SMEs, 3) the self-motivation of R&D cooperation has a moderating effect on the size and performance of SMEs and 4) the self-motivation of R&D cooperation has a moderating effect on the R&D investment and performance of SMEs. The empirical analysis was performed on approximately 13,000 SME support programs that had participated in the national R&D projects for three years, from 2013 to 2015. Its result confirmed that the R&D cooperation mediated the relationship between the size of SMEs or their R&D investment and their R&D cooperation. Besides, self-motivated R&D cooperation was found to moderate the relationship between the size of SMEs or their R&D investment and their R&D cooperation. The government is going to continue to increase R&D investment for technological innovation of SMEs, judging that their growth would expand their roles in national competence and development. This study will provide a theoretical basis for the direction of SMEs' R&D cooperation policy with repect to future national R&D projects.
본 연구는 중소기업이 기술협력을 수행함에 있어서 기술협력이 기업의 규모, 기술개발투자와 성과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 또한, 국가연구개발사업 참여시 중소기업의 기술협력 자발성이 기업의 규모와 기술협력간 관계, 기술개발투자와 기술협력간 관계에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 분석하였다. 주요가설은 다음과 같다 : 1) 기술협력이 기업의 규모와 성과의 관계에서 매개효과를 갖는다, 2) 기술협력이 기업의 기술개발투자와 성과의 관계에서 매개효과를 갖는다, 3) 기술협력의 자발성이 기업의 규모와 기술협력과의 관계에서 조절효과를 갖는다, 4) 기술협력의 자발성이 기업의 기술개발투자와 기술협력과의 관계에서 조절효과를 갖는다. 실증분석은 2013년부터 2015년까지 3개년 동안 국가연구개발사업에 참여한 중소기업 지원 과제(1만3천여개)를 대상으로 하였다. 분석 결과, 기술협력은 중소기업의 규모나 기술개발투자와 성과간의 관계를 매개하고 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한, 자발적 기술협력은 중소기업의 규모나 기술개발투자와 기술협력의 관계를 조절하였다. 중소기업의 성장이 국가의 역량과 발전에서 역할이 더욱 확대될 것으로 보고 정부는 중소기업의 기술혁신을 위하여 지속적으로 R&D 투자를 증가시킬 것이다. 본 연구는 향후 국가연구개발사업에 있어서 중소기업의 기술협력 정책의 미래방향성에 대한 이론적 토대를 마련해 줄 수 있을 것이다.
