By analyzing a sample of 252 newly listed companies from January 2011 to December 2015 in KOSPI and KOSDAQ stock market, this study intended to reveal the relationship among a pre-IPO shareholding structure, a type of business, especially whether IT industry or not, and the companies’ likelihood of the valuation after IPO which is defined by the share price of the company after IPO.
This study confirms that a significantly strong U-shape relationship exists between the share ratio of the major shareholder including its related parties and the valuation after IPO. And it is also found that there’s a weak inverted U-shape relationship between financial institutional investors’ share ratio and the valuation after IPO. The relationship between public offering share ratio and the valuation after IPO is negative. It is interesting that when the newly listed company’s business is IT related, the ownership structure does not affect the valuation after IPO.
