People, in these days, not only just listen to the songs, but also sing along the melody; peoples’ attitudes towards consumption of music have been changed via different ways of enjoying music. Therefore, singer's voice can be treated as the most important element in music. Expressive singing voices vary in terms of tone quality, range, and even skills among singers due to their diverse features. In the area of Music Information Retrieval (MIR), extraction methodologies of fundamental features, such as energy, pitch, formant and modelings of expressive features have been studied, in which singing voice has came into the spotlight. Ultimately, many vocal related studies spare efforts to interpret and evaluate the singer’s voice in diverse perspectives and to find whether this process has correlation and similarity with the qualitative evaluation procedure done by human ears.
This study presents the extraction of diverse features related to singing voice and the process of automatic evaluation on singing skills. Although the singers are given to sing with the controlled reference, score or MIDI file, each singer’s characteristics are expressed via performance in terms of habits and techniques. The analyzed features for singing voice are Pitch Range, Pitch Difference between MIDI and Audio, duration and parameters of vibrato sections and more.
Such evaluation procedures and itself may be applied in fields of vocal summary, automatic evaluation, musicological analysis in musical education and entertainment. Later, people listened to the singing audio and given to evaluate the vocals in various aspects and investigated the similarity and relationship between the quantitative and qualitative procedures.
대중이 음악을 소비하는 형태가 음악을 듣는 소극적 자세에서 따라 부르며 즐기는 적극적인 방식으로 바뀌었다. 그러므로 가수의 목소리는 음악에서 제일 중요한 요소로 손꼽힌다. 음악적 표현들이 풍부한 가창 목소리는 여러 요소들에 의해 사람마다 다양한 음색, 음역, 심지어 가창 실력을 반영한다. 음악정보검색 분야에서는 음량, 음정, 음색 등의 기초적의 요소들을 더불어 음악학적으로 의미를 가진 표현적 특색들을 측정하는 알고리즘들이 소개되고 있으며 최근부터 해당 연구들이 노래 목소리에 집중하는 경향이 강하다. 궁극적으로, 해당 연구들의 목표는 가수 전반적인 특징과 가창력을 정량적인 방법론을 통해 해석 및 평가를 진행하는 것이며 사람의 청각에 의해 이루어지는 정성적인 평가와의 유사성 또는 상관 관계를 통찰하기 위함이다.
본 연구는 다양한 노래 목소리 관련 특징들을 정량적으로 측정하고 이를 토대로 자동적으로 가수의 실력과 특징을 해석하고 평가하는 방법론을 제시하고자 한다. 가수는 악보 또는 미디등의 기준을 참고하여 노래를 부르지만 그 노래 속에 가수의 의도적인 음악적 표현들과 발성의 습관 등의 요소들에 의해 자신의 실력과 특징 도드라진다. 사용된 해당 요소들로는 미디와 보컬 오디오 간의 음정,박자 차이, 박자 간의 간격 정보, 바이브레이션 구간들과 강도, 빠르기 등으로 정리 될 수 있다.
해당 연구를 진행하기 위한 데이터 셋 구축을 위해 다수의 국내 가요와 팝송들을 선곡하였으며 다수의 20-30 남성, 여성들을 상대로 오디오 데이터 녹음을 진행하였다. 후에 숙련된 집단이 직접 보컬을 들으며 다각적인 측면에서 평가를 진행하였으며 평가항목 간의 상관 관계에 대해 확인 작업을 진행한다. 녹음된 데이터와 각 항목에 대한 평가 점수들 기반으로 정량적 평가와 사람의 귀를 통해 이루어진 정성적 평가와의 관계 및 유사성 확인 작업을 통계적 회귀 분석을 통해 진행하며 데이터들을 기반으로 평가 점수에 대해 예측하는 학습 모델을 확인한다.
