Among all the forces exerted on offshore structures, the wave force is known to be the largest. Therefore, in order to analyze the safety of offshore structures, the wave force must be accurately estimated. The Eulerian method which has been widely used for fluid dynamics has several disadvantages in analyzing fluid-structure interaction (FSI) and free surface problems due to the complicated mesh generation and the errors caused by extreme deformation of the mesh. Unlike the Eulerian method, the SPH method has an advantage in expressing a fluid that irregularly changes because the SPH method is a Lagrangian-based analysis method using particles without requiring meshes. First, we present the optimal number of particles and variables that can accurately represent the maximum wave force of dam-break problem through parametric studies. Next, we propose a method to simulate the current by applying relative movement of the structure. The numerical results are compared with the analytical estimation of the wave forces from the Morison equation. Finally, we evaluate the structural behavior and safety of offshore structure by applying suggested methods.
