This thesis empirically is analyzed the relationship between a firm’s asset liquidity and stock returns in Korea stock market. This study uses monthly returns of common stocks of non-financial firms listed in KOSPI during the sample period from July 1996 to June 2016 (240 months). The empirical study finds that in a concurrent term perspective, if the liquidity of asset is high, then the rate of return on the portfolio is high. If the liquidity of asset is low, then the rate of return on the portfolio is low.
However, in case of non-concurrent term perspective, if the liquidity of asset is high, then the rate of return on the portfolio is low. If the liquidity of assets is low, then the rate of return on the portfolio is high. Even though the asset pricing factors in Sharpe’s CAPM model(1964), the Fama and French’s Three-Factor Model(1993), and the Carhart’s Four-Factor Model(1997) are controlled, this report shows abnormal return that is statistically significant in the lowest liquidity portfolio and hedge portfolio.
