The inherent magnetic field inhomogeneities producing susceptibility effects are studied and provide unique functional information about the brain. The currently adopted gradient echo technique, however, is known as the signal change is caused by a mixture of inflow effect of arterial blood and susceptibility effect, not susceptibility effect alone. Considering the fact that the conventional gradient echo(CGE) technique is sensitive both susceptibility effect and inflow effect, we have suspected that the measurement results are composed of two terms, i.e., susceptibility effect and inflow effect. Therefore, in this paper a modeling is proposed to discriminate the composed pattern by the two terms. The reproducible experiments are performed and results are coincident with the modeling. Functional imaging based on the susceptibility effect is achieved by separation of the susceptibility effect from the mixture of inflow effect by use of the tailored RF gradient echo(TRFGE) pulses. Therefore, susceptibility effect dominated imaging can be possible and results shows reciprocal relation between the supply and consumption of the oxygen using the TRFGE technique.
