Shared window system is one of the most popular shared application framework, because the system enables existing window-based applications to be used in group work without significant changes. The system tends to centralize the management of the interface and thus provide only limited support of interface tailoring. But it is necessary to support the customizable user interface since members of the group have different backgrounds, experiences, and preferences.
In this thesis, we suggest a customizable shared window system model in which user interfaces and applications are separated. A prototype system based on our model and some shared applications have been designed and implemented. Now group members can customize the shared interfaces, reflecting their own characteristics in the shared window system.
