Due to the trend of evolution toward broadband communication network with fiber optics and intelligent electronic devices, the design of fiber optic network have been received a great deal of research attention recently. To utilize the high capacity of optical fiber systems, telephone companies have massively aggregated the bit streams onto relatively few fiber optic system, thus a single fiber link failure may result in severe service loss. Therefore, the network survivability becomes an important issue in planning and designing of fiber-optic network.
With the advance of networking technologies, intelligent network devices such as DCS and ADM will make it possible to dynamically reconfigure the network for the restoration purpose.
In this paper, first, we analyze the reconfigure network architectures such as Point-to-Point, ADM Ring, DCS Mesh. Second, we suggest optimization models for designing of the reconfigurable network architectures.
