Line-of-sight Microwave digital radio system is an important building block of communication networks, and its implementation technology is shifting fast from analog into digital. Adaptive equalization is one of the countermeasures for the multipath fading channel characteristics which degradates the performance of line-of-sight microwave digital radio systems.
In this thesis, we compare the performance of adaptive equalizers under multipath fading channel characteristics, using computer simulation approach. Various types and structures of adaptive equalizers and two types of adaptation algorithm are considered in the light of VLSI implementation. The result provides a good performance estimation of the adaptive equalizer chips implemented using ASIC technology, one of VLSI design methods.
