This thesis covers an implementation of transcendental functions in K486 FPU. K486 is a micro processor which is compatible to i486 at the instruction level. The implementation is based on Walther's unified CORDIC algorithm. Slight modifications of original iteration equations is applied to improve execution speed and accuracy of results. Microprogram is used to control the flow of instruction execution. Local hard-wired controller takes charge of datapath control during CORDIC loop. Designed scheme does not cause significant overhead on hardware complexity of FPU and shows better performance in speed than that of i486.
