Due to the high complexity and the low speed of the wire-EDM process, it is important to recognize all the possible errors before the working out process. The unproductive and time consuming test runs of NC-programs in the real production environment can be avoided by the graphic simulation.
The developed software displays 3D-display of the trace of the cut wire and the end-product. R-map is used to compare the final piece-geometry with the CAD data. And an effective method of NC verification is to introduce an NC editing function. A data structure and an algorithm using file pointer are introduced to verify and edit the NC code interactively with the aid of graphics. They permits access to a NC program's contents by moving the pointer and editing. The method verifies and edits the NC code after the post-processing without iterative programming. The aim of the simultaneous verification and editing is to recognize and eliminate errors and weak points before begining actual production.
The method was implemented in a IBM/PC-386 with MS-Windows 3.1, MS-C/C++7.0 and SDK(software development kit) 3.1.
