Combustion characteristics of solid wastes have been investigated using the techniques which are frequently used for solid fuels. Calorific value measurements, proximate analysis, thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) and drop tube furnace(DTF) tests have been employed. For TGA and DTF, experimental apparatus were designed and built for the current study.
The types of tested samples are; high volitile bituminous coals, typical Korean anthracite, papers, woods, textile, rubber, food waste, plastics(LDPE, PC, PVC). The tests show combustion behavior of each tested samples and their comparative evaluation were attempted based on the experimental observation. It is suggested that the combustion behavior of solid wastes can be described in the similar manner as the coals.
The current study is limited to the tests of each individual samples. Future study is recommended to investigate the mixture behavior of these complex combustible materials.
