A real time interferometric auto-correlator was fabricated for the purpose of characterizing laser pulses and the phase change in optical systems. The fabricated auto-correlator could resolve interferometric fringes in time domain even with relatively slow detector system. The auto-correlator was used to optimize the mode-locking of Ti-sapphire laser by using interferometric auto-correlations of the laser pulses of 100 fs to 1 ps in width. Scanning range of good linearity has been determined and the effect of phase mismatching in SHG on the shape of auto-correlation has been analyzed. More effort is needed for data aquisition system to extract exact pulse shape (in amplitude and in phase) from interferometric auto-correlation.
