The major purposes of this thesis are to analyse the taxonormy of technology-based small firms(TBSFs) in Korea and find the relationships of Business unit strategies and performance of TBSFs. Four taxonomies of TBSFs are identified using the criteria of firm's age and firm's technical innovativeness - Younger innovator, Older innovator, Younger technical dependant, Older rejumper. We classified business unit strategies into activity market scope, marketing activity, R\&D activity, manufacturing activity, asset parsimony activity, financial activity. Total number of sample was 56 of all industry. Data on 42 cases are acquried by interview and 14 cases are acquired by mail survey. Analysis focused on the comparisson of TBSFs's taxonomies and main results are as follows. 1. According to firm's age, there were difference in the manufacturing activity. In addition there were difference in the expert ratio and new product development ratio. 2. According to firm's technical innovativeness, there were difference in the R\&D activity and technology development behaviors. In addition there were difference in the founder's relationship of major and business. 3. Businiss unit strategies and performance of TBSFs were found as follows. Even though partially supported statistically, we could found that TBSFs's performance was related to channel diversity, equipment investment ratio, financial activity ratio. In addition there were difference in the business unit strategies which were impacted on performance ammong firm's types.
