Multimedia is currently the most popular word in computing. A major impetus to multimedia has been the development of hypermedia system which allows authors to connect pieces of information in diverse ways, allowing users to explore a complex web of interlinked information according to their needs and interests. The information involved can be of various types : static media such as text, image and graphics ; dynamic media such as sound and video. In hypermedia, information is encoded in small self-contained units called node and related nodes are then linked together using machine supported links.
In this thesis, we design and implement a hypermedia system. Our system provides a number of tools : an authoring tool to compose a hyper document, media editors to handle each media, and a browser to show a structure of the hyper document graphically. And nodes supported in our system are text, graphics, image, sound and video.
Among diverse application of hypermedia system, we implement a hyper mail system which provides a variety of unified document-processing function including composing, editing, filing, and transmitting as well as hyper document handling. Using Unix sendmail, we obtain a perfect compatability with previous mail system such as mail, elm.
