High frequency electronic ballast has many advantages over the conventional 60Hz iron core ballast. Electronic ballast with ZVS(zero voltage switching) series resonant inverter is superior to any other one but requires external control circuits. Control circuits composed of discrete components are very complex and expensive. In this thesis, therefore, a single chip control IC using bipolar transistors is designed. And a new ZVS series resonant inverter with regenerative drive circuit is proposed for the electronic ballast. The control IC consists of gate driver, soft starter, constant power feedback controller, and various protection circuits etc. The operation of controll IC is verified by SPICE simulation.
