This paper deals with a systematic control method for a room air-conditioner using the fuzzy logic control theory. The main objectives of air conditioning control are to save operating energy and to obtain comfortable environment. There has been continuous effort to achieve energy saving and to enhance the comfortabeness. But due to complexity, nonlinearities and humangroup dependent performance of the system, conventional on-off control or PID control schemes are not satisfactory in view of energy saving or comfort. In this thesis, in order to decide a comfort temperature, a decision rule using discomfort index, effective temperature and PMV(predicted mean vote) index is proposed. Also, in order to solve major difficulties in air-conditioning system effectively, multi-level structure for control is proposed. It consists of three hierachical levels : supervisory level, fan-effect level and tracking level. The experimental results show that the proposed control structure works well.
