In this paper, a new position control system using PI type fuzzy logic controller for the Direct Drive Brushless DC Motor is studied. The privious works of the fuzzy logic position control of the motor are the dual mode PD type fuzzy logic controllers [2], [3], [4], [5]. It is found that the performance of the dual mode PD type fuzzy logic controller which is applied to the position control of the motor under the variation of the balanced inertia is better than that of the conventional PID controller[2]. However, the dual mode PD type fuzzy logic controller are not robust to the variation of the unbalanced inertia load which can cause the steady state error. Therefore in this paper to improve such problems a new position controller is proposed, and applied to the position control of Direct Drive Brushless DC Motor subject to the unbalanced inertia load. The features and performances of the proposed position controller is compared with those of the conventional fuzzy logic controller and IP position controller through the experiments.
